All of us have things in our house that we think are precious; that we don’t want anything to happen to. In some cases, they are items that tend to be worth a lot of money, such as jewelry, small antique items and even cash. And being that approximately two million people are victims of a burglary each year, it’s important that we do all that we can to keep our homes safe and protected. Not only does this include installing a house alarm and motion sensor lights, but also keeping our valuables in places that thieves would not predict them to be.
So, if you’d like a few tips on ways to keep your precious items in your home safe, we’ve provided you with a list of five places where you can put your things below:
Inside of a book. When a burglar is inside of your house, time is of the essence. Therefore, they are not going to have enough time to look through each book that you have to see if something may possibly be inside of it. That’s why, if you do happen to have a lot of cash inside of your home, placing some of it inside of the pages of a couple of books on one of your bookshelves is an ideal place to put it.
Inside of an empty food container. Although it’s pretty customary to throw away a food can or plastic container when it’s empty, we actually recommend that you hold on to a few of them. If you wash them out and dry them, they too are a smart place to put small and expensive things; especially if after you fill them, you place the can or container in the back of a cupboard or in your refrigerator. This brings us to the next point.
Inside of a freezer. It’s virtually unheard of that a thief is going to make the time to make a sandwich or eat a bowl of ice cream while they’re robbing someone. So, pull out some foil from your pantry, wrap some of your jewelry inside of it and then place it in your freezer. If you do this, you can be confident that your diamond earrings and gold watch will be safe and secure; when you’re home and when you’re away.
Inside of your attic. If you were to ask Allstar Safe and Lock for some home security tips , one of the things that they would probably recommend you do is place some of your larger valuables inside of a cardboard box, label them as being something like “magazines” or “clothes” and put them up in your attic. Being that a lot of us tend to use our attic to store all kinds of items, a burglar is not going to make the time to go through all that is up there (if they even think to look at all).
Inside of your trash can. Another smart place to put cash is inside of your trash can; not the one outside but one of the smaller ones inside of your home. Just place it on the bottom of the can, then line your can with a trash bag and place it under your kitchen sink or the under your home office desk. Going through the trash is something that most thieves are not interested in doing. Therefore, a trash can is an ideal spot.
